Saturday morning mindfulness meditation @ the Hummingbird pilates & yoga centre nr Writtle

January-March, 2012 - I will be running two six-week courses. Each course runs fortnightly, on a Saturday morning, 9.45 - 10.45am,:

Course 1:  Foundation course in mindfulness meditation: every fortnight. For beginners to meditation. January 21st -March 31st. Price: £65/42 (lower price applies if you already take a weekly class with me).


Course 2:  Developing awareness, running every fortnight. For those who have completed the first mindfulness course with me, or who already have some meditation experience. January 14th - March 24th. Price: £65/42. Online booking and payment below.

This clip shows a talk by Jon Kabat-Zinn, the US scientist who has been instrumental in bringing mindfulness meditation - in a simple, accessible form - to the West. His books Wheverer Yo Go, There You Are, and Full Catastrophe Living, are highly recommended and have become seminal mindfulness/mediation reading.

What is mindfulness meditation?

Mindfulness meditation is a simple, secular practice that nurtures our ability to live in the present moment, rather than continually being caught up in worries or thoughts about the past and/or future. 

This increasingly popular practice has been scientifically proven to help with stress, anxiety and depression. and is taught to business leaders and athletes, to sharpen focus and to help with stress.

Meditation is also suitable for anyone wishing to relax and gain greater mental focus, compassion and understanding. These secular courses are suitable for everyone, regardless of age, religion or background.

As well as some general relaxation, techniques covered will include: Mindfulness of Breathing; Body Scan Meditation; Mindfulness of Sounds; Three-Minute Breathing Space; Mindful Walking.

The second course, for those with some experience, will build on the foundation practices, while beginning to examine individual responses to stress and difficulty, through meditation, note-taking and observation .

All techniques are simple and accessible, though certainly not without a good deal of mental challenge! All meditation courses are capped at 10 students, for comfort and space.

Booking and payment

To reserve a place on a meditation course, please pay for the course (£65, or £42 if you are an existing students) in full. The cost includes all hand-outs, course material, and props (ie blankets) during class.
